Name of Candidate: Hajar Mohamed Ashraf Kame Degree: M.A Title of the thesis : The Structure of the Narrative Discourse of Ahlam Mosteghanemi (Bed Transient and black befitting you) A Model Supervisors: Prof.DrWalid Saeed Isaa Shimi Dr. Mohammed Abdul Rahmn Mohammed Thesis Abstract Ahlam Mosteghanemi is one of the female voices that have appeared on the Arab literary scene since the beginning of the nineties, with her creativity of fictional works. This study aims to re-read the two novels written by Ahlam Mosteghanemi: a structural reading that adopted the structural approach to reveal their artistic constituents, inferring what they carry in their folds of the elements of the narrative discourse through characters, space, temporal structure, and language. I have examined the central and secondary characters in the author’s novels, and studied the patterns of those characters through Todorov’s classification, and showed the connotations of the names of the two novels’ characters, and divided the dimensions of the characters in the study into physical, social, psychological, and cultural dimensions. The real place was dominated in the author’s novels, and I dealt with the place through the two most important periods in the history of the state of Algeria: the period of the Algerian revolution against colonialism, and the period of the black decade with the clarification of the features of open spaces, such as Algeria, France, the street, forests, and other open spaces, and closed places, such as home, prison, exhibition, hospital, and other closed places. I have also examined the temporal structure in the author’s novels by distinguishing between the time of the story and the time of the discourse, and that they are connected in the story with the events of Algerian history, particularly in the novel by “Bed Transient”, which was marked by recording real historical events in the story, and the time of the past was linked to the present with the future in the two novels. This led to recalls, anticipations, and also appeared in the two novels the narrative rhythm system, which generates acceleration in the narration through the abstract, and deletions, also results in a slowdown in the narration through the scene and pause. The author’s language occupied a high position for being a distinct poetic language, and the study showed the levels of the language of dialogue and the narrator’s forms in the narrative discourse of the two novels. The French language and the variety of Arabic dialects emerged in the author’s novels as well. Translated by FUCLT. |
