Abstract The present study analyzes Robert Bolt’s history plays: A Man for All Seasons(1960)and Vivat! Vivat Regina! (1971).Bolt’s history plays did not receive adequate critical attention;the only play that was widely considered is A Man for All Seasons. However, the study focuses on the issues that Bolt deals with and the theatrical techniques he applies in his history plays. The study presents the clashes among the prominent leaders and finds out the motives behind—whether the motive is one of morality or personality. It displays the individual trapped between personal ethics and the necessities of authority. |
