Abstract Coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) is one of the most frequent types of open heart surgery in world. Surgery outcomes are generally good, but recovery can be complicated. Patients undergoing CABG often experience a range of physical and psychological problems and symptom These problems include anxiety and depressive symptoms, immobility issues, complications such as neck and shoulder pains, respiratory complications, insufficient sleep, and post-operative fatigue (Santarpino et al., 2015). Consisting of physical exercise and psycho-education has been found to improve various patient outcomes such as physical and psychological functioning there is a need for trials to investigate the effectiveness of physical rehabilitation and psycho-education in the early post-operative phase after CABG. Before a large trial are mounted, uncertainties regarding patient recruitment and feasibility of the interventions (Mosleh, Eshah & Almalik, 2017). Social support during Cardiac Rehabilitation can stem from various sources such as health professionals, family members and employers by its association with depression may contribute to post-rehabilitation and family QOL marital concerns should be addressed in support 131 interventions. Cognitive behavioral therapy-based psychosocial intervention increased social support in post CABG patients with low perceived social support (Servey & Stephens, 2016). Aim of the study: The current study aimed to assess biopsychosocial needs of patients with CABG through: Assessing demographic characteristics of patients. Assessing medical data of patients. Assessing knowledge of patients regarding CABG. Assessing physical, psychological and social needs of patients post CABG. Research Question: What are the biopsychosocial needs of patients with CABG? Research design: A descriptive exploratory design was utilized to develop a better understanding of the problem .It often accomplished by using descriptive statistics. 132 Setting: This study will be conducted in cardio thoracic outpatient clinics at Cardio Thoracic Academy in Ain Shames University hospital. Subject: Purposive sample of 60 adult patients post CABG were taken to conduct this study randomly selected followed up in outpatient clinics at Cardio Thoracic Academy in Ain Shames University hospital. Tools for data collection: Two tools were used:- Tool І: patient′ interviewing questionnaire This questionnaire was developed in simple Arabic language and filled by the researcher. It was composed of three parts based on reviewing recent and relevant literatures, and included three parts Part 1: patient′ demographic characteristics: This part is concerned with assessing patients’ demographic data which included age, gender, marital status, education level, work, place of residence and nature of living |
