Abstract

This thesis develops a new power-flow algorithm based ‎on the backward/forward sweep method. The algorithm is flexible to handle the bi-directional flow of power and the unbalance nature of the active distribution networks (ADNs). Models of the commonly used ADN components are integrated with the developed algorithm to ‎form a comprehensive tool. To verify its validity and assess its accuracy, the algorithm is tested on two standard feeders. The first one is the balanced 69-node test feeder while the second is the unbalanced IEEE 37-node standard feeder in both of its passive and active states. Two practical cases are considered in this work. The first case is 11 kV loaded network feeds residential rural loads. Moreover, the algorithm is ‎applied to 22 kV network located in a remote area far away from the Egyptian unified national grid. Simulation results have asserted the technical and economic benefits the presented ADNs.
