Abstract
The present study aims to analyze the linguistic content of the verbal events in Sandra Cisnerose’s ”House on Mango Street” in terms of cultural hybridity and economic inequality. It explores the interpretive possibilities of the intended messages behind the characters’ sayings while explaining their significance, both from the perspectives of the characters as well as the author. In doing so, it will be clear how the overall effect of the selected novel is created through these theories that the author creates in the structural design of the novel under consideration. Hence, the pragmatic linguistic analysis aims to highlight the pragmatic features and characteristics that play an active role in shedding light on the message to be conveyed to the reader, so that the writer can clarify the goals for which she wrote and wrote the novel “The House on Mango Street”. It is worth mentioning that the pragmatic perspective is the approach followed in the careful reading of the linguistic content and verbal events in the work subject of this study. And because pragmatism is concerned with clarifying the implicit meanings of verbal events through which the writer seeks to communicate his ideas and opinions in a manner that attracts the reader and raises his interest in narrative events and dramatic transformations in events and how all these elements harmonize to promote and disseminate good ideas that contribute to the statement of the human message that stimulates the enthusiasm to bring about positive changes The desired and motivating the reader to benefit from the hidden implicit messages of these verbal events in order to become the chosen tool for analyzing the narrative style of the novel, the subject of research in its formulation of the verbal events that govern the narrative events from beginning to end. In its analysis of the novel in question, the thesis relied on verbal events and used the research tools available in this field, including linguistic embedding, which helps to put goals and ideas in a melting pot to show the precedence of allusion over statement and the writer’s keenness on the strength of the allusion without insult and the eloquence of linguistic inclusion as a more expressive method of dialogue The direct, in addition to the verbal events that serve as a container for the narrative context through which the target message is formulated and intended to be delivered to the reader.
