Abstract In this study, Radon and Radioactive airborn concentration were measured in Abu-Tartour phosphate mine. Due to the new technique of mining that Abu-Tartour phosphate mine follow where the workers are digging from the surface of the mountain making a huge shallow pit with depth nearly to 60 m instead of mining underground inside the mountain. All of the sites except underground tunnels have Radon gas, Radon daughters concentrations and annual doses within acceptable range recommended by international organizations. For underground tunnels, most of the radon gas concentrations, radon daughter concentrations, thoron daughters concentration and effective annual dose exceeds action levels so the new technique is much safer from the occupational radiation protection point of view. This study may be used as reference information to assess any changes in the radioactivity level in Egyptian phosphate mines. |
