Abstract

More attention has been started to pay to harmful pollutants that end up in the receiving water with effluent. Wastewater can be treated to reuse in irrigation water and industrial purposes. Wastewater treatment can be occurring by removing of harmful pollutants. In the area of water purification, nanotechnology offers the possibility of an efficient removal of chemical and biological substances.
Nanofibers species have been suggested for the removal of these harmful pollutants from wastewater which is produced through electrospinning process, which attracted many attentions through the academic research and the industrial field because of the multiplicity of its applications.
The current thesis is entitled: ”Composites of Nanofibers with Highly Efficient Nanosorbent Materials for Wastewater Treatment ” studying the preparation and the characterization of chemically modified poly (St-co-AN) nanofibers and its usage as an adsorbent for the removal of methylene blue dye from wastewater.
The estimation of the enhancing effect of carbonaceous materials incorporation of P(St-co-AN) nanofibers adsorptive capacity towards cationic methylene blue dye was illustrated. P(St-co-AN) nanofibers were fabricated using the electrospinning technique. The polymeric material was impregnated with natural materials such as graphite and carbon nanotubes to enhance the formed nanofibers adsorptive properties. The formed nanofibers were applied in the removal of Methylene Blue dye and simazine pesticide from wastewater.
The removal process parameters such as (initial pollutant concentration, pH of the medium, and contact time) have been studied. Isothermal and kinetic studies of the adsorption process onto the nanofibers surface were done to investigate their behavior.
The optimum conditions in the removal process of methylene blue from wastewater were evaluated. Also, the heat of sorption was evaluated by Temkin to be 25.34 J/mol. and also qm of P(St-co-AN), P(St-co-AN)/graphite and P(St-co-AN)/CNTs are found 17.77, 20.34 and 24.69 mg/g, respectively.
The mechanism of the removal proves was found to be chemisorption according to Boyd and Elovich models, in addition to the uniform activity distribution onto the surface of P(St-co-AN) nanofibers with monolayer coverage of methylene blue molecules by Langmuir. Pseudo 2nd order is more appropriate to describe the adsorption process.
