Abstract Equine piroplasmosis is atick-borne disease of horses caused by the intra erythrocytic Babesia caballi and Theileria equi the aim of these study was to determine the sero-prevalence of T. equi and B. caballi infections in horses in Menoufia Province by using ELISA and the indirect Immuno-fluorescent antibody techniques(IFAT), A total of 236 serum samples were collected from seven differnt centers of Menoufia province, by ELISA Seroprevelance of Babesia caballi and Theileria equi was 211(89.4%), 222(94.06%) respectively and mixed infection occurred in 202(85.5%) samples while by IFAT Seroprevelance of Babesia caballi and Theileria equi was 121(51.2%), 126(53.3%) respectively and mixed infection occurred in 70(29.6%) samples, Seroprevalence with ELISA higher than with IFAT for both Parasites this indicate ELISA test is high sensitive, statically there is no significant association between seroprevelance of equine piroplasmosis and sex, age or locality while Pregnancy as animal risk factor showed great effect on the seroprevelance of equine T. equi piroplasmosis which might attributed to immune status of pregnant female. Our findings indicated that B. caballi and was prevalent in horse population in Menoufia province. |
