Abstract

through genetical improvement. The ultimate goal of most breeding programs is the production of improved hybrids for commercial Maize (Zea mays L.) is one of the most important cereals in Egypt due to is vast grown area, total production and cash it is essential for human consumption and cooking oils. Many efforts are devoted nowadays to increase its productivity use through the production of improved hybrids for high yielding ability.
The total production of maize in world was 1134.75 million tones in 2017 produced from an area of 469.49 million fed (One feddan; fed =4200m2) , (WWW.fao.org) , with an average yield of 2416.97 kg grain/fed . In Egypt , the total production of maize was 7.10 million tones in 2017 year produced from an area of 2.192 million fed , with an average yield of 3239.19 kg/ fed . The total production supplies 80% of the require consumption with a reduction gap of 20% which has to be filled via importation . To increase grain yield per unit area , maize breeding programs in Egypt should pay more attention to develop new hybrids of more
