Abstract

This study was conducted to compare the clinical effectiveness of topical timolol solution alone, PDL alone and that of combined PDL with topical timolol solution in treatment of superficial infantile hemangioma. The study included 30 patients with superficial infantile hemangioma who were classified into 3 groups each of 10 patients; group (A) that included patients were treated with topical timolol solution, group (B) that included patients were treated with PDL and group (C) that included patients were treated with PDL and topical timolol solution. All the cases were selected from Dermatology, Andrology and STDs Department and Pediatric Department, Mansoura University Hospitals, Mansoura. After obtaining a written informed consent, the cases were subjected to full history taking and clinical examination including general examination and full dermatological examination. Laboratory analysis included analysis of complete blood count in the included cases. All patients were photographed using standard digital photography before treatment and at every visit during follow up. The follow up included assessment of the cases response for treatment, satisfactions of the cases and the reported complications. The results of this study showed that: • response was recorded in the timolol treated group followed by the combined group followed by PDL group. • The complications of treatment included erythema 10%, 20% and 20% in the timolol, PDL and combination group respectively with no statistically significant difference between the studied groups. Only 1 case in the combined group showed itching and scaling.
