Abstract

In this study, 630 serum samples (237 sheep, 121 goat and 272 camel) were collected from different localities in the north western coast of Egypt, then tested serologically by Rose Bengal plate test (RBPT), Croma test using B. melitensis antigen, Croma test using B. abortus antigen and competitive ELISA. Out of the total collected samples 158 serum samples were tested by Anigen rapid Brucella Ab Test. The results revealed an overall seroprevalence (13.50%, 13.08%, 16.46% and 23.21%) for sheep, (25.62%, 33.06%, 33.88% and 29.75%) for goats and (4.04%, 2.57%, 6.99% and 3.68%) for camels by RBPT, B. melitensis Croma test, B. abortus Croma test and cELISA respectively. In this study, the maximum number of samples were found positive in cELISA followed by rapid test and then by RBPT, thus the rapid test as a chromatographic immunoassay (CA) is reliable test compared to RBPT. Also, the results of the Croma test were disappointing, so we do not recommend using this test in screening for brucellosis in animals. Finally nearly similar seroprevalence was observed in males and female (16.28%, 16.01%) respectively by cELISA. While prevalence rate in young and adult animals was 18.51% and 15.92% respectively. The seroprevalences of aborted, infertile, mastitic and arthritic animals were (18.26%, 33.33%, 22.22% and 33.33%) respectively by cELISA. While it was (15.53% 15.78%, 15.94% and 15.70) % in non-aborted, fertile, not mastitic and not arthritic animals by cELISA respectively.
