Abstract Obesity is characterized by the increased adipose tissue (at) mass in an organism. Taking into account a high incidence of obesity and obesity related disorders, a search for antiobesity compounds has become one of the most exciting areas in drug discovery . Among a wide number of substances, much attention is paid to phytochemicals, which are able to influence different stages of obesity pathogenesis . According to modern theories, oxidative stress is an important factor leading to adipose tissue endocrine dysfunction and obesity itself . The current study was carried out to investigate the effect of saffron and psyllium separately or in combination on body weight, serum Lipid profile, liver and kidney functions was investigated in obese rats, fifty adult male albino rats Sprague Dawley strain weighting 180+10g were divided into two main groups, the first main group 7 rat was fed on basal diet and served as a control negative group, While the second main group 43 rats was fed on high fat diet for 4 weeks to induce obesity. Then was divided into six subgroups the first subgroup was only fed on high fat diet as a control positive group its number were 8 rats was slaughter at the seven week from experience and weight the accumulated fat percent with liver, kidney, heart and stomach which was 2.6%. Subgroup 2 and 3 were fed on high fat diet supplemented with saffron (crocus sativus) 2% and 5% powder, respectively. Subgroup 4 and 5 were fed on high fat diet supplemented with psyllium husk (plantago ovata forsk) powder 5% and 10%, respectively. Subgroup 6 were fed on high fat diet supplemented with mix of herbs powder at the level 2% saffron and 5% psyllium, respectively for 8 weeks. |
