Abstract

Background : Congenital anomalies or birth defects are defined as structural abnormalities diagnosed antenatal, at the time of birth or in the first few years of life. Congenital anomalies are one of the leading causes of childhood mortality and morbidity, accounting for nearly 30% of all deaths in children aged under five years old in high‐income countries. Aim of the study: The study was undertaken to know the prevalence and types of fetal anomalies in Mansoura university hospitals as a referral hospital, which represents multicenter of Dakahlia governorate. Methods: This was a retrospective observational study including all cases having fetal congenital anomalies attending Mansoura fetal medicine unit during a period of 3 years between 2015 and 2018. Data was collected from patients’ records who attended to OPC for US scan. Results: Among our study population the majority of cases of congenital anomalies were affecting renal system 24.9 % followed by involvement of multiple systems 19.3% , cardiovascular system 16.5 %, nervous system 14.5 % and musculoskeletal system 10.8 % cases respectively with an antenatal prevalence of 12.45 per 1000 pregnancies.
