Abstract Out study aimed to assess the role of abbreviated breast MRI in screening and preoperative staging of breast cancer. Our study included 40 female patients all were evaluated by abbreviated MRI and full dynamic MRI. For screening purpose, our study included 9 high risk females with five lesions. These lesions included 4 benign and 1 malignant lesion based on histopathological examination either tissue pathology or aspiration cytology. We classified lesions according to MRI BI-RADS lexicon into enhancing lesions and non-enhancing lesions. Enhancing lesions were classified into mass lesions and non-mass lesions each of the was evaluated according to the MRI lexicon descriptors. In our study, the sensitivity and specificity of abbreviated MRI examination were 100% and 87.5% respectively. Our study showed that the abbreviated MRI with acquisition time of 3 minutes and reading time < 1 minute is sufficient for establishing the absence of breast cancer in screening of breast cancer. We also found that the abbreviated protocol had the same sensitivity and specificity of full dynamic MRI. Diagnostic accuracy was equivalent to that of the FDP and resulted in an additional cancer yield of 11 per 100. |
