Abstract A fractional saving in fuel usage would be result in a considerable saving in fuel expenses which represents the largest part of ships operating costs as well as a considerable reduction in the emitted exhaust gases. To achieve this target, photovoltaic solar panels have been used as supporting power source for the instruments onboard marine units. This study aimed to check the feasibility of installing a photovoltaic / diesel hybrid power system onboard a passenger-car ferry connecting the two banks of the Suez Canal at Port Said Governorate. In the present study, two analysis are carried out to evaluate the environmental and economical impacts of the proposed system on a case study (Port Said - Port Fouad). |
