Abstract

Summary and Conclusion The present study was carried out on 40 adult male albino rats of local strain with body weight ranging between 150-200 grams to study the effects of monosodium glutamate on obesity and fatty liver of male rats and the possible protective effect of Vitamin D. The animals were divided into four groups (10 rats in each group): group I; (Normal control group): The animals of this group received 0.5 ml distilled water by oral gavage for 8 weeks. group II; (Vitamin D-treated group): The animals of this group were treated with vitamin D (cholecalciferol) orally in a single dose of 500IU/Kg/day given by oral gavage tube for 8 weeks. group III; (MSG -treated group): The animals of this group were treated with MSG at single dose of 35mg/Kg/day, dissolved in saline, given by oral gavage tube for 8 weeks. group IV; (MSG +Vit. D-treated group): The animals of this group were treated with vitamin D, at the same dose of group II, along with MSG at the same dose of group III At the end of experiment the following parameters were estimated: 1. Body weight and abdominal circumference. 2. Serum AST 3. Serum ALT
