Abstract

Systemic lupus erythematosus is an autoimmune disease that may affect multiple organ systems. one of the most serious complications of SLE is renal damage and Lupus nephritis accounts for significant morbidity and mortality in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus.
Many biomarkers for lupus nephritis have been studies ; of them urinary MCP-1 was found to be significantly high in SLE patients with a renal flare.
The study was done as a case control study aiming at assessing the role of urinary MCP-1 in the early diagnosis of lupus nephritis and to correlate the levels with disease activity and renal status. 60 SLE patients with lupus nephritis attending the Suez Canal University hospitals outpatients clinic were enrolled in the study (30 patients with active LN and 30 patients with inactive LN) in addition to 30 healthy volunteers as control group.
