Abstract Evaluation of therapeutic effects of Bumped Kinase Inhibitor (BKI) on Cryptosporidium parvum infection compared to nitazoxanide (NTZ) using parasitological and histopathological parameters. Cryptosporidium parvum infection is considered as the most common cause of self-limiting diarrhea which is fatal in immunosuppressed patients or young children. Total of 104 Swiss albino laboratory -bred mice were used and classified into 2 main groups of mice: immunocompetent group and immunosuppressed group. Each group was subdivided into negative control, positive control, infected treated with NTZ, infected treated with BKI. Stool examination for oocyst shedding was done at different days post-infection. At the end of experiment, all mice were sacrificed (15 days post infection), histopathological assessment of the ileum stained with H&E. and Electron microscopy were done. The results could be summarized as follow: In the present study, NTZ has therapeutic effect in immunocompetent infected mice with no effect on immunosuppressed infected mice. There were significant reductions in oocysts shedding in immunocompetent infected mice while there were small percentages of reductions in oocysts shedding in immunosuppressed infected mice. |
