Abstract Obesity is known to be an increasing health concern recently in both the developed and developing countries. Its medical importance peaked after been recognized globally as a disease of its own in addition to being a major predisposing factor for chronic diseases. It became an alarming health issue in Egypt recently having the highest national mean BMI in the world (26.3 kg/m2) and being the 7th most overweight country in the world. On the other hand, type 2 diabetes mellitus is a global health problem with wide prevalence and major medical and financial burden to the countries mainly due to the crippling complications that involve mostly all systems and organs of the body. This was the trigger that initiated the era of bariatric and metabolic surgery, a more-or-less radical method that can simultaneously treat obesity and the associated metabolic derangements like T2DM. Laparoscopic mini-gastric bypass has proved itself worthy, with several studies reporting its efficacy in both losing weight and controlling diabetes, also reporting its technical superiority over many bariatric operations regarding feasibility and safety. In the present study the efficacy of LMGB was examined mainly regarding its diabetic control/remission ability with secondary objectives of assessing its weight losing ability, safety and effect on the patients` quality of life. |
