Abstract I. Introduction and literature survey. The Aizoaceae (Mesembryanthemaceae) family is a South African succulent plant family with the long name (19 letters) having a relatively simple meaning of, “pistil in the middle.” The family is composed of mostly succulent plants of which 99% are found in the south or southwest Africa. Family Aizoaceae constitutes a major part of the southern African succulent flora. With approximately 1860 species in 127 genera. It is also South Africa’s second-largest plant family. The genus Lampranthus is also known as Mesembryanthemum, it is a genus of about 180 species, endemic in South Africa; 4 species introduced to Australia. The genus Malephora are sometimes upright, creeping shrubs, with distinct internodes from which roots may arise. Leaf pairs are slightly fused at the base. The present work includes phytochemical investigation and evaluation of some biological activities of Lampranthus coccineus (Haw.) N.E.B.r. and Malephora lutea N.E.B.r. aerial parts, and this study includes five main parts |
