Abstract The prevalence of peripheral arterial disease has been evaluated in several epidemiologic studies to be is in the range of 3% to 10%, increasing to 15% to 20% in persons over 70 years (2-3-4). Peripheral arterial disease includes a group of diseases in which blood vessels become stenosed or blocked. The most common cause of peripheral vascular disease is atherosclerosis. Atherosclerosis is a disease in which fatty plaques form in the subintimal space. (1) The best way to manage peripheral arterial disease especially the patients with superficial femoral artery lesion remains unresolved. For patients with intermittent claudication, supervised exercise therapy and optimal medical management are the mainstays of therapy. (15-16-17) if these treatments are ineffective endovascular therapy (EVT) and bypass surgery may be required. |
