Abstract There is compelling evidence that violence against women is severe and pervasive throughout the world: in countries at least one survey on violence against women has been conducted. However, there is still an urgent need to strengthen the knowledge base to inform policy and strategy development. Although available research on violence against women worldwide covers a wide range of topics, the majority of research in Egypt has been on the prevalence of wife-beating, risk factors and health consequences. Very little has been written about other types of VAW, women‘s coping strategies and help-seeking behaviors, or comprehensive ways to combat VAW in Egypt. Moreover, the methodology and data collection techniques used in many of the non-DHS studies have been questioned on the basis of adequacy and/or ethical foundations. |
