Abstract The present study was conducted to evaluate the effect of Levofloxacin and Cefepime in rat experimentally infected with E. coli through. 120 rats were divided into 6 equal groups. group 1( cont): served as control, GP 2 : infected with E.coli (1×108 I/P once) , GP 3: treated with levofloxacin (40 mg/kg BW orally for 7 days), GP 4: treated with cefepime (45 mg/kg BW I/M for 5 days), GP 5 : infected with E.coli & treated with levofloxacin , GP 6: infected with E.coli & treated with cefepime with those a previous mentioned doses. Rats were treated daily for 2 weeks. Whole blood , serum samples and liver specimens were collected to evaluate hematological , biochemical alterations, hepatic antioxidant prameters, immunological parameters and Histopathological studies. Our Result revealed that infection with E.coli induced a increase in erythrocytes (RBCs) count, hemoglobin (Hb) concentration and hematocrit (Hct) , also total leukocyte (TLC) as well as liver enzymes (ALT, AST, ALP and LDH) activities , glucose, cholesterol , triglyceride (TG) levels and hepatic malondialdehyde (MDA) were elevated, also lysozyme activity, IL-10 and TNF-α . In contrast Hepatic reduced glutathione (GSH) , superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase (CAT) were decreased . The levofloxacin treatment improved the suppressive effects induced by E.coli infection, moreover treatment with cefepime ameliorate the toxic effect of infection with E.coli on hematological, hepatorenal damage and antioxidant parameters. Overall our results proved that, levofloxacine and cefepime showed protective effect against E.coli infection induced toxicity. |
