Abstract

ABSTRACT
Background: Uterine atony is the most common cause of postpartum hemorrhage (PPH), which is one of the leading causes of maternal morbidity and mortality and it is common following both vaginal and caesarean delivery.
Objectives: The aim of the study is to compare efficacy of bilateral uterine artery ligation versus uterine flexion suture (B-LYNCH) in treatment of atonic uterus.
Patients and Methods: This study was conducted on 100 patients who delivered by cesarean section with primary postpartum hemorrhage due to atonic uterus not responding to medical treatment and devided into 2 groups: 1st group: Uterine flexion suture (B-LYNCH) was performed, 2nd group: Bilateral uterine artery ligation was performed.
Results: The results showed that uterine flexion suture (B-LYNCH) technique was more effective than bilateral uterine artery ligation for management of women with atonic PPH after CS.
Conclusion: For management of women with atonic PPH after CS, uterine flexion suture (B-LYNCH) technique was more effective than bilateral uterine artery ligation with less intra and postoperative blood loss, operative duration and maternal complications.
