Abstract Itcanbeconcludedfromthepresentworkthatexaminationofwastewatertreatmentplants(WWPTs)showedhigherlead,cadmium,copperandzincconcentrationsinwatertakenfrominput thaninoutput.Leadandcadmiumionsshowedhighervaluesabovetheirnaturallevelsaffectinganimalandhumanhealth.Thepresentworkshowedthatwoodsawdustintheformofmicroparticleswasapromisinglow-costadsorbenttobeusedintheremovalofleadandcadmiumionsfromaqueoussolutionsoverawiderangeofconcentrations.Leadandcadmiumremovalpercentages increasedwith increasing contacttimeuntilreachingoptimumequilibriumcontacttime(40minutes),thenitremainedstable.Removalpercentagedecreasedwithincreasinginitialmetalconcentrations.TheoptimumpHfoundforadsorptionexperimentswas7andequilibriumsawdustdosagewas0.6,0.4gramforleadandcadmiumatwhichmaximumremovalpercentageofleadandcadmiumwereobserved.Studdingeffectivenessofwoodsawdustonremovalofleadandcadmiumfromuntreatedinputofwastewatertreatmentplantsshowedhigherremovalpercentagesforbothleadandcadmium ionsindicatingthatwoodsawdustisaneffectiveadsorbent forheavymetalremovalfromwater. |
