Abstract

The present investigation was carried out during two successive seasons 2018 and 2019 on Redglobe grape Cv. Thirty vines were selected and devoted for this study , they were 11 years old at the start of this experiment and grown in a clay soil located at Beni-Mazar district – Minia Governorate- Egypt, spaced at 2×3 meters apart and trained as a cane system using gable. Pruning was carried out at the first week of Jan, leaving 72 buds per vine.
The main obtained results can be presented in the following points:-
• All treatments had reduced the percent of decay as compared with the control. The best effective treatment in this respect obtained from spraying chitosan at 0.75% combined with calcium chloride at 2%.
• Using sodium bisulfite pads was also effective in reducing the decay % over 60 days of cold storage.
• The highest weight loss % was presented in the control. In other words, all treatments were effective in reducing the % of weight loss. This might be attributed to the function of the used materials.
• The quality of the grapes was maintains by all treatments as compared with the control through increasing total soluble solids and reducing sugars in the same time reducing the acidity.
As a conclusion and on the light of previous results one can state that extending the storage duration with keeping good fruit quality could be achieved by using chitosan at 0.75 % combined with calcium chloride at 2% or using sodium bisulfite pads on the surface of the stored boxes.
