Abstract

This study aimed to investigate the response of Taxodium distichum and
Swietenia mahagoni seedlings to soil application of three concentrations of
sulfur (3, 6, and 9 g /pot), foliar application both of monopotassium
phosphate (KH2PO4) at (1, 2, and 3 g/L) and foliar application of putrescine at
(100, 200, and 300 mg/L), that irrigation by saline water at levels of 3.13,
4.69, and 6.25 dS m-1 for T. distichum and 4.69, 6.25 and 9.38 dS m-1 for S.
mahagoni, in addition to control treatment (0.35 dS m-1). Survival percentage
was 100 % both of T. distichum at salinity level of 3.13 dS m-1 and S.
mahagoni at salinity level of 4.69 dS m-1. As salinity level increasing to 4.69
dS m-1, survival % of T. distichum decreased to (56.40 and 61.70 %),
whenever, salinity level increasing to 6.25 dS m-1 survival % of S. mahagoni
decreased to (64.30 and 69.60 %) in both seasons, respectively. All growth
parameters, i.e. (height of plant, diameter of stem , number of leaves, fresh
and dry weight of leaves and roots, and length of root) decreased as the
concentrations of saline water irrigation increased. Whereas, the highest
values of free proline content, was gained by the highest concentration of
saline water irrigation 6.25 dS m-1 and
