Abstract Social media is a platform that we use every day and spend much time on them. Social networking among secondary school students has become more and more popular, over the years, because it is a way to make connections between friends within and outside the school. Aim: This study aims to assess the utilization of social media as a source of health information among secondary school students in Port Said City. Design: A descriptive research design was utilized to conduct this study. Sample: A stratified proportional cluster sampling method was carried on 512 students in five secondary schools in Port Said city. Tool: The data was collected using a self- administered questionnaire which included five parts. Results: The results of this study showed that 77% of the study group was using social media as a source of health information and the majority of the study group who use social media was using facebook. Also, there were 316 student use social media as a source of health information about nutrition conclusion: using social media is very prelevant among the study group and the most common social media used among them was facebook. Recommendations: Improve parents knowledge about teaching their children the embarrassing subjects to avoid inaccurate information from social media and decrease time spent on these sites. |
