Abstract The current investigation focused on evaluating the impacts of water pollution on the Eco-physiology of African catfish, C. gariepinus sampled from four different water ecosystems during the period from winter season, 2017 to autumn season, 2018 during four successive seasons. beside, the ability of microalgae (Scendesmus sp.) in water purification, bioremediation of heavy metals, pesticides and dioxins and employ this in biomonitoring programs in Delta and the ability of Hydroxy Apitite Nano Rods (HANRs) from nature source (egg shell) to reduce pollutants from waste water to reuse it. The obtained results showed that Manzala lake and Omar Beck drain were rich in chemical and biological contents as it contains enormous amounts of sulfates, bicarbonates, chlorides, calcium, potassium, magnesium, sodium, nitrite, nitrate and ammonia and phosphorus as well as elevated levels of electric conductivity. Attention to heavy metals levels, it was clearly that the concentrations of Zn2+, Fe2+, Cu2+, Cd2+, pb2+ and Mn2+ were higher in Manzala lake water than those in the control water. The water-monitoring study confirmed the presence of eight organophosphorus and organocholorinated compounds as Dimethoate, Chlorpyrifos, Malathion , Atrazine, Metalaxyl, Carbendazim, Chloropropham, P-P-DDE* & Dioxin in water samples. Among all investigated localities, Manzala Lake & Omar Beck drain had the highest level with nine compounds followed by Sherbeen with seven compounds in summer season. Attention to heavy metals levels, it was clearly that the concentrations of Zn2+, Fe2+, Cu2+, Cd2+, pb2+ and Mn2+ were higher in Manzala lake and Omar Beck drain sediments showed very highly significant values over that in Nile River sediments. Water pollutants had negative impacts on hematological, biochemical, ecological and histological characteristics of African catfish. These indices showed seasonal variations among Nile River and three polluted water ecosystems. The biological treatment (phytoremediation ) by micro algae (Scendesmus sp.) clarifies the maximum growth of algae after 21 days of retention time in polluted water media with heavy metals, pesticides and dioxins in summer season (the highest amount of pollutants) and remediate the pollutants from waste water. The nano technological treatment by natural source (egg shell) to obtain Hydroxy Apatite Nano Rods (HAPNRs) to purify polluted water media from heavy metals, pesticides and dioxins in summer season (the highest amount of pollutants). The concentration of pollutants in purified water was decreased to 90 - 97% from the polluted water in all study sited compared to Nile River (the least polluted site) in two types of treatment. The two types of treatments in the current study are easily applicable , low total cost and eco friendly to the environment. |
