Abstract

Aim of study : The purpose of this study was to compare the cyclic fatigue resistance of forty NiTi endodontic files of the same brand WaveOne Primary, WaveOne Gold Primary, ProTaper Gold F2 and ProTaper Next X2. Materials and Methods : Forty files were used in this study. The files were divided into four groups according to the system. The cyclic fatigue tests were performed using a cyclic fatigue-testing device, which has an artificial stainless steel canal with a 45 angle of curvature and a 5-mm radius of curvature. All instruments were allowed to rotate and reciprocate till fracture occurred and the time to fracture was recorded in seconds using stopwatch. The longer time to fracture indicates more resistance to cyclic fatigue. The data obtained from the cyclic fatigue test were evaluated for the presence of significance through a one-way analysis. Results : The results of the cyclic fatigue test showed that WaveOne gold and ProTaper Gold files were statistically more resistant to cyclic fatigue than WaveOne and ProTaper Next (P < 0.005), and the WaveOne files were significantly more resistant to cyclic fatigue when compared with ProTaper Next (P < 0.005). Conclusions : The cyclic fatigue resistance of the WaveOne Gold Primary and ProTaper Gold F2 files made of (gold technology) had higher resistance to cyclic fatigue than that of the WaveOne Primary and ProTaper Next X2made of (M wire). The reciprocating WaveOne Primary files was more resistance to cyclic fatigue than ProTaper Next X2.
