Abstract

This thesis concerned the removal of cadmium (CdII) and chromium (CrVI) ions from industrial polluted water by using both the magnetic silica composites containing nano zero valent iron and its accompanying oxides, and using the same previous composites after combining them with polyamide to obtain on the polymeric composite of polyamide with magnetic silica composite. The adsorption studies of the prepared materials revealed the susceptibility of the composites, whether containing polyamide or single magnetic silica, to the removal of cadmium(CdII) and chromium(CrVI) ions from industrial contaminated water. The thesis consists of three chapters which are as follows: Chapter One: Introduction This chapter reviews the various sources for water pollution by heavy metals, and clarifies the recent and advanced methods used to remove these pollutants. This chapter also reviews the magnetic silica composites used in the treatment of water contaminated with heavy elements or other organic and inorganic pollutants. The effect of using the polymer magnetic silica composites in water treatment and their advantages to the other methods was also reviewed. Chapter 2: Materials used in Laboratory Experiments This chapter deals with the presentation of the materials, instruments and tools used to prepare, characterize and evaluate the prepared compounds for removing the heavy ions under study in this thesis.
