Abstract The present study was conducted for the assessment of the treatment of periodontal bone defects defect and regeneration of the lost tooth supporting structure. a total of 40 intrabony defect in twenty patients with moderate to severe adult periodontitis (8 males and 12 females) ranging in age from 40 to 50 years. All patients were included free from any systemic disease, metabolic or destructive bone disease and no history of medication that can affect bone density. Defects under investigation were classified into two groups according to the use of nanobone and collagen membrane as a grafting material or nanobone alone. group I include filling the bony defect with nanobone and collagen membrane and group II filling the bony defect with nanobone. All patients treated first with initial periodontal therapy consisting of oral hygiene instructions and supragingival, subgingival scaling and root planing; periodontal reevaluation was performed one month following the initial periodontal therapy (baseline) to confirm the suitability of the sites for this periodontal surgical study. Under local anesthesia, intra-crevicular incisions, full-thickness mucoperiosteal flaps were raised on facial and lingual\palatal surfaces. Vertical releasing incisions were performed for better access and/or to achieve a better closure of the sur-gical sites, debridement of all granulation tissues was performed. For each patient, one side was treated with nanobone and collagen membrane, and the other side with nanobone, as a sufficient amount of the graft material was carried out by spoon excavator, was used to overfill the intrabony periodontal defect.
