Abstract

This study provided an evaluation of central macular thickness (CMT) before and after cataract surgery using optical coherence tomography (OCT). This study conducted on 38 eyes of 38 patients who underwent to have cataract surgery and admitted to Department of Ophthalmology at the Menofia University Hospital during the period from January 2016 till June 2017 were studied.
The inclusion criteria were patients age from 40 up to 72 years with cataract causing visual impairment, uncomplicated phacoemulsification and diabetic patients without fundus pathology while exclusion criteria were complicated phacoemulsification, significant ocular disease , previous ocular surgery or trauma, any systemic disease or any medication (topical or systemic) may cause alteration in central macular thickness, fundus pathologyand low quality or unreliable OCT.
