Abstract The current study was aimed to evaluate effect of personal hygiene program on knowledge and self-reported practices of mentally retarded students at El-Fikreya schools in Minia Governorate. The study was conducted at all schools for mentally retarded students in Minia governorate, which were: El-Fikreya school in Minia city, El-Fikreya school in Matay district and El-Fikreya school in Malawy district. A convenient sample consisted of 53 mentally retarded girls in the three previous settings who met the inclusion criteria, total number was 53 girls. the result of the present study the researcher recommended that: 1. Sustainable and continuous school health education and training program with the active involvement of school teachers should be conducted in each school that leads to improvement in personal hygiene of school children. 2. Well-developed school-based health and hygiene curricula that promote personal hygiene at home and at school should be established. 3. Additional studies should be done in Egypt using a wider geographic scope and a larger sample size including their mothers in order to produce sufficient and comprehensive information. |
