Abstract

The present study was designed to investigate the modulating effect of vitamin E (100mg/kg b.wt.) and/ or black seeds oil (2ml/Kg b.wt.) against adverse effects of linezolid (100 mg/kg b.wt.) for 14 successive days. This experiment was done on sixty, four months old apparently healthy male albino rats weighing between 170-180 gm average body weights, divided into 6 equal groups (10 rats in each).
Group1: Rats were be given 0.2 ml/kg b.wt. distalled water orally(control group)
group 2: Rats were be given 0.2 ml/kg b.wt. tween 80.
group 3: Rats were be given 0.2 ml olive oil.
group 4: Rats were be given linezolid 100mg/ kg b.wt.
group 5: Rats were be given linezolid + Vitamin E (100mg / kg b.wt.)
group 6: Rats were be given linezolid + black seeds oil (2ml / kg b.wt.)
Linezolid, vitamin E and black seeds oil were be given once daily by gastric tube for 14 successive days.
Two blood samples were taken from all rats in all groups on 14th days post drug administration during sacrifi¬cation under light ether anasthesia .
First sample was mixed with EDTA as anticoagulant and used for hematological studies.
Second sample was taken in test tube without anticoagulant, left to clot at room temperature in a slant position then centrifuged at 3000 r.p.m/20 minutes. The obtained non hemolyzed serum were transferred to clean and dry sterilized plastic vials with a good stopper by a means of micro-pipette and kept at -20ºC until biochemical analysis.
Tissue samples (liver and kidney) of each rat were removed immediately after scarification under light ether anesthesia, cut into small pieces and immersed in 10% neutral formalin and kept for histopathologidal examination
