Abstract

This study was done in Assuit Chest Hospital in the period from January 2016 to June 2017 depending on data collection from records of the patients who were admitted in the hospital during this period. This study aimed at the prevalence of extra pulmonary tuberculosis in patients admitted to Assuit Chest Hospital during the period 2016-2017.
Data were collected and analyzed and the following was found:
Total number of TB cases was 198 cases. Extra pulmonary TB cases counted for 127, (64.14%) while Pulmonary TB cases counted for 71, (35.86) and male patients counted for 101, (51.01%) cases while female cases counted for 97, (48.99%).
Classification of tuberculous patients according to geographic area showed that the highest prevalence of tuberculous infection affecting Urban areas (61.11%), followed by Rural areas (38.89%).
According to address, Assuit where in the first by 80 cases (62.88%), followed by Elfateh center by 25 cases (19.69%), followed by Mankabad center by 10 cases (7.78%) then the rest of centers represents the rest of the ratio.
According to diagnosis 123 cases diagnosed by biopsy (62.12%), followed by 15 cases by chest X-ray (7.58%) then the last method by MRI about 4 cases (2.02%).
Also, the study revealed that 66 patients (51.97%) were females, 61 patients (48.03%) were males in Extra pulmonary tuberculosis and we found the prevalence of tuberculous infection was the highest in the age group from 30-50 years. The lowest occurrence was in the age group > 70 years.
The distribution of site of disease (EPTB) by our study, the most common sites of extra pulmonary disease were lymphatic (29.13%), genitourinary (22.82%), bone and vertebral column (22.62%), GIT, spleen and peritoneum (14.18%) then unclassified EPTB (12.61%).
