Abstract The main purpose of this study is to develop Conceptual Representation (CR) for the Holy Quran. CR is a new approach for the externalization of the internal conceptual structure into a visual form to capture meaning at a conceptual level. In order to achieve this goal, we started by conducting a survey of current literature to explore the directions taken in applying computational methods to Quranic text and hence positioning our research in relation to published work in this area. An organizing framework for identifying publication trends in computing studies related to the Holy Quran domain was proposed. Results of this survey indicated that most common themes in the Quranic computing studies are developing systems for information retrieval of the Holy Quran as well as developing Quranic ontologies for knowledge representation. An empirical study was conducted for investigating the effect of the utilization of concept mapping and mind mapping on students’ understanding. Results of the experiment emphasized that students in concept mapping and mind mapping groups performed better than those in the control group. Students in the concept mapping group spent the shortest time to finalize the test questions. They spent approximately half the time spent by students in the control group. Students tated that it would be interesting and constructive to get other courses represented and taught using such representations. A domain of the Holy Quran was selected. The classification of the Holy Quran verses that include the word ”Al-Haq” was conducted according to the Islamic cholar Mohamed Al-Rawy’s classification published in his book. |
