Abstract This cross section study aimed to assess the nutritional status of patients with End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) undergoing hemodialysis (HD) by using malnutrition-inflammation score (MIS) and its association with sociodemographic, clinical, anthropometric, laboratory parameters and dietary intake. Fifty ESRD patients undergoing HD (3 times / week, 4 hours /session) attended HD Unit at Ain Shams University Hospital from September 2017 to December 2017 according to inclusion and exclusion criteria. Every patient was interviewed for socio-demographic, clinical, anthropometry, laboratory and dietary assessments then the patients were classified into 3 groups based on the MIS to normal nutrition (score: 0–5), mild malnutrition (6–10), and moderate to severe malnutrition (≥11). from the obtained results it could be concluded that HD patients with malnutrition had longer duration of dialysis (above 5 years), lower albumin level (< 4 g /dl), impaired appetite and lower dietary intake of both macronutrients and micronutrients compared to those with normal nutrition. The high prevalence of malnutrition among these patients requires regular assessment of nutritional status for proper nutritional intervention.
