Abstract

Back ground: Discontinuation of family planning is very dangerous for the world because high fertility is associated with poor women’s health and high maternal mortality. Design & Aim: Descriptive cross-sectional deign was used for assessing factors associated with discontinuation of family planning methods among women in Ismailia city. Setting: The study was conducted at family planning clinic in health center at Ismailia city. Sample: Purposive and snow ball sampling consisted of (371) women. Tools: Two tools were used. First tool was interviewing questionnaire consisted of Socio- demographic characteristics of subjects and menstrual history. Second tool was interviewing questionnaire to assess factors associated with discontinuation of family planning method. Results: It shows that ranking for factors of discontinuation of family planning methods; 87.1% demographic factors followed by 54.7% factor related to medical factors and 51.2% factors related to cognitive domain, 48.0% factors related to method, 18.3% reproductive factors, 18.1% psychosocial factors, 16.4% culture factors and 15.4% administrative factors, It also shows that 67.4% of the studied women have good satisfaction of the offered family planning services. Conclusion: Factors associated with discontinuation of family planning method most of them demographic factors followed by medical, cognitive, factors related method, reproductive, psychosocial, culture and administrative factors respectively. Most of women have good Satisfaction of the offered family planning services. Recommendations: Training of family planning providers in relation to counseling, Distribution education pamphlet about family planning method how to use and side effects during late pregnancy, the postpartum and the post-abortion periods in hospitals
