Abstract

Fish production is one of the most promising sectors in achieving food security and economic development. Aquaculture production is considered as a food producing economic project which can provide a sustainable source of fish production in Egypt to help in filling the gap between demand and supply in local fish market and also it has a share of 78% of the total fish production. The study focused on three governments (Sharkia, Ismailia and Kafr El-Sheikh). Data used in the this study were primary data obtained by questionnaire forms through personal interviews during the production season and secondary data collected from the publications of the CAPMAS , GAFRD, FAO and last literature and articles.Quantitative and qualitative analysis of the economic variables through economic description of production process inputs and outputs, prices and cost , besides description of the economic performance of those variables to know the most important factors in aquaculture production. And The study aims to estimate the productive efficiency of aquaculture farms through analysis of the relationship between the inputs and the outputs and estimating the costs, revenues, net profit and collective, partial efficiency measures to evaluate the economic efficiency .The study included the introduction, literature review and the study sample. The study estimated the costs and its relative importance and the ratio of variable cost to the total cost. It found that veterinary management, farm size and raising different species of fish have a positive effect on the productivity and hence increase the revenues and the profit. Fish farming in the study area is profitable despite the high cost of running the farm and other production constraint.
