Abstract

Nurses are often faced by many challenges at their workplaces as bullying and occupational stress that physically, psychologically and socially affect them. Aim: The present study aimed to assess the relationship between workplace bullying and occupational stress among nurses. Design: A descriptive correlational research design was utilized. Sample: A convenient sample of 171 staff nurses was selected. Setting: The study was conducted at Al-Azhar University Hospital at New Damietta. Tools of data collection: Two self-administered questionnaire sheets were used to assess nurses’ workplace bullying and occupational stress. Results: 62% of nurses were experienced bullying in their workplaces where the highest mean score was regarding to the organizational processes related bullying. And about 94.7% of nurses experienced moderate level of occupational stress. Conclusion: The current study concluded that there was no statistical significant correlation between staff nurses’ workplace bullying and their occupational stress. Recommendations: Educational programs are recommended for nurses to deal with their workplace bullying and occupational stressors. Additionally, healthcare organizations should develop policies and strategies to eradicate bullying at workplace and reduce the occupational stressors.
