Abstract Tensile structures have two main roots in history: fabric tents and hanging bridges. At late twentieth, with the vast progress of technology, German architect and a pritzker winner Feri Otto had widespread Tensile Membrane Structure with his experiments on soap filming and other physical models. Membrane structures are one form of architectural feature that are becoming hugely popular within modern day engineering. For membranes, the excitement of their exterior sculptural form, suitability of the materials used and the apparent comfort of their internal climatic conditions are the fundamentals in securing this aim. Moving to explain the different classification of tensile membrane structure according to structure, material and its attachment relation with building. Or to discuss the different factors affecting design process and membrane performance. Different trends and project at the field of tensile membrane structure are analyzed to aid in proposing its integrated technology in architecture and urban planning field. selecting special and popular project around the world, the selected project cover the different type of structure, material, systems used in this type of building. Through three main aspects (Environmental- Visual image- Industrial technology) projects are to be compared through sub aspects in every category in order to determine which aspects affect more. With the same methodology this research discussed the application of tensile membrane structure in Egypt. In order to determine strong/weak points of using T.M.S in Egypt. Leading to recommendation for better use of T.M.S in our environment. |
