Abstract

The Objectives of the Study are:
- Displaying scenes of animal motherhood in the private tombs of ancient Egypt from the Old Kingdom until the end of the New Kingdom.
- Classifying the actions of motherhood in animals.
- Specifying the animals represented in these actions.
- Comparing animal motherhood scenes during the Old, Middle, and New Kingdoms.
- Analyzing the results of the different actions of animal motherhood.
- Documenting the depiction of animal motherhood on wall scenes from the private tombs in ancient Egypt.
Conclusion of the study:
Animal motherhood actions are displayed through the ancient Egyptian scenes in three representations: while giving birth, suckling, and accompanying their youngs.
The total number of the scenes in this study is ninety-four scenes: thirty- five scenes describing giving birth scenes, twenty describing suckling and thirty-nine describing company.
The total number of scenes representing the Old Kingdom Period is sixty-two Scenes, the number of Middle Kingdom Period is twenty-five scenes, while in the New Kingdom Period it is just seven scenes.
The scenes of animal motherhood are taken from forty-seven private tombs of ancient Egypt which found at Giza, Saqqara, Beni Hasan, Meir, Deir El Bersheh, Deir elGabrawi, , Thebes, Moaalla.
Scenes of the Old Kingdom were from the tombs of Giza, Saqqara, and Deir El Gabrawi, while the Middle Kingdom scenes were from Beni Hasan, Meir, and the New Kingdom scenes were from Thebes.
There is an only scene that dates back to First Intermediate Period found at Moaalla.
The most important sites of the Old Kingdom are Giza and Saqqara, as most scenes were found at their private tombs.
Animals depicted in motherhood actions in the Old Kingdom Period are: the addax, cow, crocodile, dog, donkey, gazelle, genet, goat, hippopotamus, hyena, ibex, and baboon.
Animals represented in motherhood actions in the Middle Kingdom Period are: the cow, Donkey, Gazelle, Hartebeest, Monkey, Baboon, Oryx, and swine.
Animals represented in motherhood actions in New Kingdom Period are: Cow, donkey, goat, and hippopotamus.
So only the cow and donkey in this study are represented in motherhood actions in the Old Kingdom, Middle Kingdom, and New Kingdom Periods, while the addax, crocodile, dog, genet, hyena, ibex are represented in motherhood actions only in the Old Kingdom period. The hartebeest, Oryx, and swine are represented in motherhood actions only in the Middle Kingdom Period. There are not any animals represented in the New Kingdom period only and did not found in Middle Kingdom or Old Kingdom Periods.
