The present study aims to identify the social responsibility of Citizen Journalism in addressing some issues of the Egyptian family and its credibility with the university youth, and to identify the family issues in the citizen’s media (subject study) and to analyze them quantitatively and qualitatively, as well as the factors influencing the credibility of Citizen Journalism, which should be available in Citizen Journalism from the point of view of respondents.
The significance of the study
This study gets its significance from its topic on the social responsibility of Citizen Journalism in addressing some issues of the Egyptian family and its credibility with university youth.
The problem of the study: The study problem is determined in the main following question:
What is the social responsibility of Citizen Journalism in addressing some issues of the Egyptian family and its credibility with university youth?
Number of sub-questions related to analytical study and field study are derived from this main question.
First: Questions concerning the analytical study:
1. What is the treatment method used in some issues of the Egyptian family in the Citizen Journalism?
2. To what extent does Citizen Journalism handle study sample in some issues of the Egyptian family?
3. To what extent have the conditions of honesty and objectivity in the Citizen Journalism sample study been achieved?
4. To what extent are the violations of the social responsibility standards in the Citizen Journalism sample study found?
5. What is the shape used in publishing the issue of Citizen Journalism sample analysis?
6. What is the purpose of using multimedia in the Citizen Journalism sample study?
7. What is the source of the material used in Citizen Journalism sample study?
Second: Questions concerning the field study:
1. What is the extent of respondents exposure to Citizen Journalism?
2. What are the favorite shapes of Citizen Journalism among respondents?
3. What is the extent of respondents participation in Citizen Journalism?
4. What is the extent of Citizen Journalism participation in political knowledge from the perspective of respondents?
5. What are the elements of credibility should be available in Citizen Journalism from the perspective of respondents?
6. What factors which affect the degree of credibility in the shapes of Citizen Journalism from the point of view of respondents?
7. What are the ethical standards and social responsibility of Citizen Journalism from the point of view of respondents?
Study hypotheses:
• The First hypothesis:
There is a statistically significant correlation between the rate of exposure of the respondents to the Citizen Journalism and their attitudes towards its credibility.
• The second hypothesis:
There were no statistically significant differences between the respondents in their assessment of the degree of credibility of Citizen Journalism according to the demographic variables.
• The third hypothesis:
There were no statistically significant differences between the interaction and participation of respondents in the Citizen Journalism according to the demographic variables.
• The fourth hypothesis
There is a statistically significant correlation between the social responsibility of Citizen Journalism in addressing some issues of the Egyptian family and the degree of credibility among the respondents.
Methodological procedures:
Type of study: belong to descriptive studies.
Methodology: The study used the media survey method.
Study Society: The current study population is represented in university youth population at Cairo University.
The study sample:
A) Analytical study sample:
It is represented in ”Seventh Day Page - Citizen Journalism on Social Networking (Facebook), Egypt Today Blogs on the website of the Egypt today.”
B) Field study sample:
It is represented in a random sample of 400 young university students at the universities of Cairo and Benha.
Limitations of the study:
The study limits are as the following:
(1)Geographical boundaries: The study is limited to Giza Governorate (Cairo University) and Qalyoubia Governorate (Benha University).
Human Boundaries: represented in a random sample of students from two Egyptian universities (Cairo and Benha), with a total of 400 individuals with 200 students per each university.
Time Limits: it is the period when the researcher has analyzed the Citizen Journalism sample study. It is from 1/1/2017 until 31/12/2017. The field study is also conducted on a sample of 400 Egyptian university youth at the same level between males and females during the period from 21/3/2018 to 19/4/2018.
Objective boundaries: The social responsibility of Citizen Journalism in addressing some issues of the Egyptian family and the extent of its credibility among university youth.
Data collection tools: The researcher uses questionnaire form and content analysis form as collecting data tools.
Statistical processing of the study: The data are processed through the SPSS program, known as the statistical programs package for social sciences.
Main results of the study:
Results of the analytical study:
1. Text and picture have occupied the introduction of the press arts in the Citizen Journalism sample study, and the language of everyday life has become the top language used in the Citizen Journalism.
3. The social issues have ranked first among the issues dealt with by the Citizen Journalism sample study, then the economic issues have come in second place, and finally the political issues have come.
4. Physical violence has ranked first among the shapes of domestic violence. The results of the study show that children are the most affected by the domestic violence, while the forms of marital disintegration are at the top of marital press.
5. Participation of women in political parties has ranked first among the political issues within the Egyptian family. High level of prices is also the top of the economic issues in the Citizen Journalism subject study.
6. reliance on personal experiences comes at the top of conditions list of truthfulness and objectivity achieved in the Citizen Journalism sample study, then followed equally by (the connection of arguments to the point of view) and (views from reality), and the existence of specific information source came in third place. Then (the view of other views) came in fourth place, and finally (reference to other sources for more information) and (there are no arguments and evidence based on it) came.
7. The violations of the social responsibility standards in the Citizen Journalism are the main reason for the study (lack of important aspects of the news) and (exaggeration in the dissemination of information) comes in second place. However, (Clear discrepancy in information and data).
2. Results of field study:
1. 43.3% of the respondents expressed their keenness to browse Citizen Journalism from their point of view.
2. The respondents have referred to the motives of their use of the Citizen Journalism. It comes at the first (to search for news and information), then (the publication is characterized by confidence) comes in, followed by (communication with others), then (allowing the opportunity to participate and express opinion in the events).
3. The field study finds that 99.0% of the respondents have surfed (social networks) as the most popular shapes of Citizen Journalism that respondents prefer.
4. 68.3% of the respondents have expressed their interest in participating and interacting with the Citizen Journalism, while 31.8% of them have indicated that they do not participate in Citizen Journalism.
5. 51.8% of the respondents say that the Citizen Journalism has provided the university youth with political knowledge to a certain extent, followed by the second place (36.3%) and finally (no political knowledge) at 12.0%.
6. The study finds that (moral commitment) is the first element of credibility that should be available in the Citizen Journalism from the point of view of the respondents with an average of 5.07.
7. The results of the field study have revealed that (the contribution of the Citizen Journalism in covering the events realistically) came at the forefront of moral standards and social responsibility of Citizen Journalism with an average of 6.01%.
Results for hypotheses:
• The hypothesis concerning the exposure of respondents to Citizen Journalism and their attitudes towards credibility: The results have revealed that there is no statistically significant correlation between the rate of exposure of the respondents to the Citizen Journalism and their attitudes toward its credibility.
• The hypothesis of the demographic variables of the respondents and their assessment of the degree of credibility of Citizen Journalism: The results have revealed that there is no statistically significant difference between the respondents in their assessment of the degree of credibility of Citizen Journalism according to the demographic variables. The results have confirmed the validity of the hypothesis: ”There are no statistically significant differences between the interaction and participation of the respondents in the Citizen Journalism according to the demographic variables.
-The hypothesis of the demographic variables of the respondents and their interaction and participation in the Citizen Journalism: The results have confirmed the validity of the hypothesis that ”There are no statistically significant differences between the interaction and participation of the respondents in the Citizen Journalism according to the demographic variables.
• The hypothesis of the social responsibility of Citizen Journalism in addressing some of the issues of the Egyptian family and its degree of credibility among the respondents: ”The results have confirmed the existence of a statistically significant correlation between the social responsibility of Citizen Journalism in addressing some issues of the Egyptian family and the degree of credibility of the social networks among the respondents, ”while these results point out that there is no statistically significant correlation between the social responsibility of Citizen Journalism in dealing with some issues of the Egyptian family and the degree of blogs among the respondents ”
-The results have also revealed that there is no statistically significant correlation between the social responsibility of Citizen Journalism in addressing some issues of the Egyptian family and the degree of credibility of the Citizen Journalism departments in the electronic press among the respondents.
