Abstract Thiosemicarbazones and their metal complexes have attracted considerable attention due to their great biological activity. The use of several thiosemicarbazone derivatives in drug synthesis has resulted in extensive research on the chemistry and metabolism of these drugs. This thesis consists of three main chapters: Chapter 1: Introduction This chapter gives a literature survey about the coordination chemistry, definition of thiosemicarbazone compounds and their importance as well as their metal complexes especially those of biological activity. As well , definition the cancer and the mechanism of Ehrlich Ascites carcinoma and solid tumor in mices are presented. It has been concentrated on the analytical and biological applications of thiosemicarbazones and their metal complexes. Chapter 2: Experimental This chapter describes the preparation of Schiff base ligand; The ligand was prepared by mixing equimolar amounts of isatin and N(4)-antipyrine-thiosemicarbazide in anhydrous EtOH, with reflux at 80 ºC for 2h and adding a few drops of conc. H2SO4. Also, the methods used to prepare the metal complexes of this ligand with metal salts of iron(III), cobalt (II), nickel (II), copper(II) and zinc (II) were described. Different instrumental methods were utilized for elucidation the structure of ligand and its metal complexes as elemental analyses, spectral techniques (IR, UV–Vis, 1H NMR, EPR and mass spectra) for the ligand and its metal complexes, magnetic susceptibility, molar conductivity and thermogravimetric studies. Finally, the biological |
