Abstract Seventy- five samples of the common marketed shellfish represented by Shrimp, Crab, Oyster, Squilla Mantis and Lobster (15 of each) were collected from the fish markets in Sharkia Governorate, Egypt. The samples were collected and transferred directly to the laboratory, Faculty of Vetrinairy Medicine, Zagazig University. The samples were subjected to bacteriological examination for enumeration, isolation and identification. The results obtained are summarized as the following: Bacteriological examination: A. Aerobic Plate Count in examined shellfish : The mean values of APC of the examined shellfish samples (crab, shrimp, Oyster, squilla mantis and Lobster) were ( 5.6×106 ± 2.9×105) , (1.9. ×106 ± 1.3×105) , (3.7×106 ± 1.7×105 ) , (106 ± 1.3×105 ) and (5.9×106 ± 2.3×105 ) cfu / g, respectively . B. Staphylococcal Count in examined shellfish : The mean values of Staphylococcal Count of the examined shellfish samples (Crab, Shrimp, Oyster, Squilla Mantis and Lobster) were (2.6×105 ± 5.8×104), (1.9 ×105 ± 3.6×104) , ( 2.6×105 ± 3.3×104) , (3.6×105 ± 3.4×104) and (1.6×105 ± 2.4×104 ) cfu / g, respectively. |
