Abstract

Addiction is a chronic relapsing disorder characterized by neurological
change lead to compulsive take drug with loose of control over drug intake.
It begins in childhood and adolescence and is influenced by a tangle of
factors involving genes, environment, and an individual’s age at first
substance use. Whatever the addiction cigarettes, cannabis, illicit or
prescription drugs are considered illegal when diverted from proper use as
benzodiazepine, tramadol, flurest, dextromethorphane, parkinol.
The current study was under taken to determine the common addicting
drugs from urine and hair samples of 240 students volunteers: 120
students from three secondary schools (high secondary school,
mechanical and decorative school, agriculture school) and 120 students
from three colleges (faculty of tourism & hotels, faculty of science and
faculty of social service) in Fayoum city. The first step was the
screening test, which is applied to all samples. Screening tests are
immunoassay(dipstick ) and TLC (Thin Layer chromotographer). The
second step is (High-performance liquid chromatography) HPLC ,
known as the confirmation test, was only applied to positive samples
during the screening test.
The present study revealed that 40% cannabis, 23% benzodiazepine
and 37% tramadol are more prevealent among school students than 25%
flurest, 9% parkinol and 8% dextromethorphane which are more among
students of colleges .The present study shows that the students in school
are more poly drugs user 62.4% while the students of colleges are more
single drug user 60.4%.
In 2011, recent statistics in USA revealed that drug use among
students of high schools & colleges increased to 81 % in the last five
years. That figure mirrors the growth in prescription drug abuse with
pain killers like oxycontin , valium and tramadol which became the
second most abused drugs, behind marijuana. People often become
addicted to pain killers when they take them for legitimate reasons, such
as surgery. The drugs make patients feel euphoric, leading them to want
that feeling more.
