Abstract

This work is composed of three main chapters.
The first chapter:
- introduction
In this chapter, a literature survey was carried out and included the
following of items:-
a) Introduction about importance of oximes and schiff bases.
b) Importance of oximes and modes of bonding of oxime in metal
complexes.
c) Defintion, nomenclature and preparation of oximes and schiff
bases.
d) Importance of oximes and schiff bases and their metal complexes
in the following fields of applications:-
1- Biological application: -Antitumor, anti-mycobacterial and
antimicrobial activity.
2- Pharmaceutical application: -Anti-inflammatory activity,
hydrazones in treatment of iron overload diseases, antimalarial,
anti-trypanosomal and anti- convulsant.
3- Catalytic applications:-In many fields such as some
polymerization processes and some chemichal reactions.
4- Analytical applications:-Such as separation and determination of
traces of metals and determination of some species in
pharmaceutical formulations.
- Review of literature on, oximes and schiff bases.
The second chapter: Experimental
In this chapter, the methods used for the preparation of new oxime
ligand (H4L), (1) and (H6L), (12) and preparation of their metal
complexes for copper(II), nickel(II), cobalt(II), manganese(II), zinc(II),
mercury(II) and iron(III).
The techniques used for characterization of new ligand and its complexes
were also described which included: elemental, thermal analyses, infrared
spectra, proton magnetic resonance (1H-NMR), mass spectra, electronic
absorption spectra (UV-VIS), electron spin resonance (ESR), magnetic
also described biological activity of the oxime ligand and its metal
complexes and determine the invitro cytotoxicity properties against
hepatocellur carcinoma
The third chapter:- Results and discussion
The analytical and spectral studies showed the structural and
spectroscopic properties revealed that the ligand(H4L), (1) and (H6L),
(12) (adopted a tridentate fashion; on the other hand the metal
complexes adopted a tetragonal distorted octahedral geometry around
metal ions. All the complexes are non-electrolytic in nature as suggested
by molar conductance measurements. The ligands coordinated to the
central metal ion through a phenolic OH, one-imine nitrogen, one oximenitrogen
atoms forming five-membered rings including the metal ions.
The biological activity of the ligands and their metal complees were
assessed against hepatocellur carcinoma .Results showed that
by the study the cytotoxicity of the the ligand and its metal it was found
that, ligand (1)Zn(II) complex (13) and Cd (15) appeared to be much
cytotoxic (IC50 = 8.03,3.01 and 6.69 μg/ml respectively) against the cell
lines of HepG-2 The toxicity of both ligand and metal complexes was found to be concentration dependent, the cell viability decreased with
increasing the concentration.of.complexes.
