Abstract The present study aimed primarily to investigate the nutritional and biochemical effect ofHumulus lupulus in different levels (1.0, 2.5, and 5.0 %) on the hepatic injury that induced by Benzo[a]pyrene in adult albino rats.Sixty six adult male albino rats were weighing (150 ± 10 gm per each) used for these investigations. All rats were fed on basal diet for one week before starting the experiment for acclimatization. After one week, rats were divided into five main groups, according to the following scheme for Successive 35 days: group (1): control negative was fed on basal diet. group (2):control positive fed basal diet with B[a]P treatment.group (3): received diet supplemented with Humulus lupulus pre-B[a]P treatment, and sub-divided into three groups as: (1.0, 2.5, and 5.0%) supplementation. group (4): received diet supplemented with Humulus lupulus simultaneously with B[a]P treatment, and sub-divided into three groups as: (1.0, 2.5, and 5.0%) supplementation. group (5): received diet supplemented with Humulus lupulus post-B[a]P treatment, and sub-divided into three groups as: (1.0, 2.5, and 5.0%) supplementation. At the end of experiment, rats were scarified and blood samples were collected for biochemical analysis. While, rats organs (liver, kidneys, spleen and heart) were carefully removed for histopathologically examination. The obtained results revealed that Humulus lupulus supplementation has significant action in reduction of liver injury induced by B[a]P specially at the third group, which were by reduction of liver inzymes AST and ALT also reduced bilirubin level. Humulus lupulus supplementation has significantly increased liver detoxifying enzymes (reduced glutathione, glutathione, glutathione peroxidase and catalase) which are nearly becoming close to normal range. There was improvement action in kidney function, and the examined serum minerals. In addition to hops immunomodulatory effect. Conclusion:This study demonstrated that Humulus Lupulus dietary supplements is a potent and efficacious hepatoprotective agent, and have the potential as preventive agents against B[a]P induced liver damage through induction of detoxifying enzymes. In addition to the nutritionally and immunomodulatory effect. |
