Abstract

CKD is associated with age-related renal function decline accelerated in hypertension, diabetes, obesity and primary renal disorders. Atherosclerosis is a common phenomenon in patients with CKD and oxidative stress is one of the most potent inducers of vascular inflammation in atherogenesis. ROS are known to modify the oxidation reduction (redox) state of the exposed cells and several inflammatory genes and the related transcription factors are regulated through redox-sensitive mechanisms.
The Keap1–Nrf2–ARE pathway is an important antioxidant defense mechanism that protects cells from oxidative stress and the Keap1–Nrf2 protein–protein interaction (PPI) has become an important drug target to up regulate the expression of ARE controlled cytoprotective oxidative stress response enzymes in the development of therapeutic and preventive agents for a number of diseases and conditions.
The aim of this work was to elucidate the relation of polymorphisms of nuclear erythroid factor 2 at rs35652124 and rs6721961 with hypertension and oxidative stress in chronic kidney disease.
The study included a 100 subject who were divided into 3 main.
